This policy follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Your files

When you drop photos or videos into ExifGone, they are read and cleaned with JavaScript directly in your browser. The files, their metadata (e.g. location, camera, date) and the cleaned results are never transmitted to a server and are not stored. Once you close the page, they are gone from your browser.

You can check this yourself: load the page, disconnect from the internet and clean a file – it still works.

Hosting by Cloudflare

The website is delivered by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. To display the page and protect it against attacks, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data when you visit: IP address, date and time, requested URL, browser and device information. This data is not used to build profiles.

The legal basis under the GDPR is my legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Data may be transferred to the USA. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. More: Cloudflare privacy policy.

Visitor statistics (Cloudflare Web Analytics)

To see how many people use ExifGone and which pages are helpful, I use Cloudflare Web Analytics by Cloudflare, Inc. (see above). Each page loads a small script from static.cloudflareinsights.com. When a page is viewed, it sends: the page visited, the referring page (e.g. a search engine), browser, operating system, device type, approximate country and page load times.

Cloudflare Web Analytics sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and does not build profiles that recognise you across websites. I only see aggregated numbers, not individual people. Your photos, videos and their metadata are not transmitted.

The legal basis under the GDPR is my legitimate interest in improving the service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). For the transfer to the USA, the information on Cloudflare above applies. If you don't want this, you can block the script with an ad blocker – ExifGone still works fully.

Cookies and advertising

ExifGone sets no cookies and shows no ads.

Map link (OpenStreetMap)

If a file contains a location, you can view it on OpenStreetMap via the “Show on map” link. Only when you click this link does OpenStreetMap open in a new tab and receive the coordinates and your IP address. The OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy then applies.

Contact by email

If you email me, I use your details only to answer your request and delete them once they are no longer needed.

Your rights

You have the right to access the data I hold about you, and to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Please contact me at the email address above. Since ExifGone never receives your files, I hold no data about them.

You may also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority – in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU the data protection authority of your country of residence.

Changes

I will update this policy when ExifGone changes (for example with a paid Pro version). The version published here applies.
