ExifGone

🇨🇭 Swiss made · Runs 100% in your browser

Remove location and metadata from photos and videos

Phone photos and videos often reveal where they were taken – along with the device and time. ExifGone shows you this hidden data and removes it in one click. No upload.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop a photo or video

The file is opened only in your browser – it is never sent to a server.

  2. 2

    See the hidden data

Instantly see whether the file reveals your location, device or name.

  3. 3

    Download it clean

One click removes the metadata. Image and video quality stay exactly the same. Multiple files come as a ZIP.

Why does it matter?

Almost every smartphone stores invisible EXIF data in every photo and video: exact GPS coordinates, the device, date and time, sometimes even a serial number. Email such a photo or video, post it in a forum or use it in a marketplace listing, and you may be giving away your home address.

It matters most for online sellers, real estate agents, photographers and anyone sharing photos of their kids or their home.

FAQ

Are my photos and videos uploaded?

No. ExifGone runs entirely in your browser. You can check it yourself: open the page, disconnect from the internet and clean a file – it still works.

What is EXIF data?

EXIF is a standard cameras and phones use to write extra information into image files: location, camera, lens, exposure, date and more. Often there is also XMP and IPTC data such as your name or copyright. ExifGone removes all of it.

Will my photo or video lose quality?

No. Image and video data are not re-encoded – ExifGone only removes the metadata. Orientation and colour profile are kept, so everything looks exactly the same.

Don't WhatsApp and Instagram remove it anyway?

Many platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp (when sent as a photo) do. But email attachments, cloud links, forums, your own website, marketplaces or files sent as documents often keep it.

How can I tell if a photo or video contains my location?

Just drop the file into ExifGone. If it contains GPS coordinates, you will see a red warning with the location.

Which formats are supported?

Photos as JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC (iPhone), videos as MP4 and MOV. For GoPro or dashcam videos, ExifGone warns you if they contain a GPS track that cannot be removed yet.
